Description

The essence of every management job is about achieving results. A manager is responsible and accountable for achieving objectives within defined key areas of the job.  It is the identity and description of these Key Result Areas (KRAs) that provide the context in which each manager, ultimately, makes a relevant contribution to the achievement of organizational aims and objectives; and on which, managerial performance should be judged. It is the manager’s ‘Slice of the Action’.

 Learning Outcomes

By the end of the Session, delegates will:

  • Be able to analyse any job to produce a ‘Key Result Areas (KRA) Job Description.
  • Acknowledge that in order to survive, let alone prosper, an organization must stay, continuously, relevant to the Environment, in which it conducts its affairs.
  • Understand that this relevance must be, consistently, interpreted into every KRA job description, ‘cascaded’ down, throughout the management structure.

The presentation, that follows, analyses the results produced by the delegates and the similarity of their responses. It goes on to exhibit the results produced by other delegate groups and how their responses were the same; validating the general principle that every organization, of whatever size and endeavour, all have the same components of Aims, People, Technologies and Structure.

The organization’s means of achieving its Aims and Objectives, employing the ‘Import/Conversion/ Export’ process, is demonstrated and the resulting ‘Added Value’, fully explained.

      The Corporate Cake

To provide a ‘live’ context, better, to understand the ‘Cake’ metaphor. The delegate group engage in the case study, ‘Enfleurage International’.

The delegate group are briefed on the concept that every organization can be perceived as a ‘cake’ that can be sub-divided into functional ‘slices’.

Each one of these functional ‘slices’, represents, yet, another ‘cake’, at the next level of management down; in this case, Divisional. The nature, of each Divisional ‘Cake’, is clearly reflected in the KRA Job Description of the Head of that Division.

Divisional ‘Slices’ become Departmental ‘Cakes’, at the next level down. The nature, of each Departmental ‘Cake’, is clearly reflected in the KRA Job Description of the relevant Departmental Manager.

The delegate group review the seven KRA Job Descriptions, within scope of the Case Study.
